If Mike Freer becomes MP for Finchley, it means he will no longer be able to treat Barnet Council as his personal fiefdom, which will be good news for all taxpayers.<br /><br />Instead of throwing his weight around and barking orders to supine councillors, he will be on the receiving end of them. As the saying goes: “What goes around, comes around.” Bitter? Not me! The larger the Conservative majority in the Commons, the lower down the pecking order he will be.<br /><br />David Cameron has learnt from his mistake of over-promoting new MPs too quickly, which means that Mr Freer will spent a lot of time rotting on the back benches. For someone who demonstrably suffers from hubris, this will be absolute torture for him.
